Now, I have no problem using a CF card in my camera. They are sturdy and harder to lose than an SD. However, it is growing increasingly hard to find readers, specifically computer-integrated ones, that accept CF cards.
I've been shopping about the last day or so, looking at CF shaped adapters that you can slip an SD card into. I have no doubt that one of these would work in my camera up to a 2gig, but once you go with 4gig and beyond, stretching into SDHC territory, I wonder if the Rebel would accept it.
I'm looking to adapt an 8gig. Anyone know if this will work?
CF cards are still a better, faster, higher capacity and more robust card than a SD / SDHC card. I would think that you may want to upgrade to something like the Canon 40D or even 5D to enjoy a true upgrade. If you can save for the new 50D or 5D, Mark II, the are the first Canon DSLR's to support the high speed UDMA CF cards.
It seems that Canon is attempting to move P&S camera users with a lot of SD cards over to their entry level DSLR's ... taking a page from Nikons marketing strategy starting with their D40
Just based upon the nature of professional photographers, cameras and design specifications of the CF cards and their near indestructibility, you will be seeing CF cards in all the high-end DSLR's for a long time to come.
