  • I searched the archives, and I know it has been discussed in the pre-vBulletin 2 days, however I want to see what is the general consensus these days.

What is the best hardware (between the two) and OS platform to run vBulletin?

Especially, it would be great to hear from vBulletin developers themselves, what architecture they would recommend: SPARC or i386.

New sparc (2i Processor) running Solaris 8 every time.

  • Gonna go with dave# on this one... Assuming you have the cash... but then again for the same money you could get one sweet linux box..say dual talutions or xeons, with 2 Gigs of ram and 4 seagate cheetah 15k rpm drives (striped and mirrored of course...).

  • my recommendations are

Red Hat 7.1/7.2 with latest 2.4 kernel with stuff compiled with gcc 2.95.3 compiler

the least amount problems with this setup especially for dual cpu/SMP setups
