  • What types of careers can I find in Japan/America working with the Japanese language, and/or culture.
In a couple of months i'll be fluent in English, contemporary Japanese, kyushu dialect, and old Japanese. And i'm going to college in one year, but i'm not sure if I want to be an antrhopologist specializing in japan (because what the heck kind of careers are there in that field, not many I don't think) or maybe work in communications between Japanese - Ameican companies? I've been studying Japan since I was about 7, so I know for sure that's what i'll be doing, but can someone with experience help me out wiht what type of careers I cna get, or how hard they are to come by?

  • I hate to be a job counselor. Do what you want to do in life. Like carpentry? Be a carpenter. Enjoy teaching? Be a teacher.

If you are truly fluent in Japanese, you are still only halfway (maybe 1/3) there. Just being able to speak the language will not guarantee any job at all. Over 125 million Japanese people speak the language perfectly, and they also have the advantage of knowing and accepting the culture. You need qualifications, which means a proper degree and experience, to make yourself more suited than any Japanese to do a particular job.

What kind of job do you want to do? work in communications between Japanese - Ameican companiessounds vague. Interpreter? Translator? Or company man?

Look at www.daijob.com and www.careercross.com for bilingual job opportunities, and read all the articles by Terry Lloyd on daijob.
